GH’s Brook Lynn-Lulu Feud Is A Bad Representation of Women and Mothers

GH’s Brook Lynn and Lulu’s feud is a bad representation of women and moms.

Dredging up the long-buried Brook Lynn-Lulu feud may have spurred some front-burner storyline on General Hospital—the big reveal that Gio is Dante and Brook Lynn’s son—but it’s come with a price. It’s a bad representation of mothers and women.

The Original Feud

It was fine watching the two adversaries go at it 15 years ago, when they were both in their twenties. They were still young, had a lot to learn, and were both smitten with Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) when Brook Lynn tried to seduce her ex away from Lulu.

It made sense that Lulu was wary of Brook Lynn, considering her past with Dante. And it stood to reason that Brook Lynn was jealous of Lulu, who was then Dante’s true love.

Revisiting History

However, revisiting their combative relationship now that Lulu (Alexa Havins) and Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) are full-fledged adults is a sad take on grown women. Lulu’s animosity toward Brook Lynn should have stayed dead and buried, but she’s been consumed with it from the moment she awakened from her coma.

When Lulu discovered that Brook Lynn had had a baby as a teenager and gave it up for adoption, and later began to suspect that Dante was the father of that child, she was like a dog with a bone. Despite Brook Lynn’s pleas to leave the past buried, Lulu continued digging and scheming.

It all led to her uncovering that Gio (Giovanni Mazza) was the pair’s son, the teenager accidentally overhearing the news at the Nurses’ Ball, and announcing it to the crowd, which included a stunned Dante and Brook Lynn. Lulu’s snooping upended several lives, most importantly, a devastated Gio’s, when it was none of her business. As a mother of two children of her own, she should have known better and realized the repercussions of her actions.

Two Wrongs Don’t Make A Right

Since the truth came out and Gio rebuffed both his biological parents, Brook Lynn’s been on a mission to get even with Lulu. It’s a classic case of two wrongs don’t make a right. She dug up the twisted information about Rocco’s conception, and although she ultimately decided not to move forward with it, he found the file containing his birth certificate naming Britt as the woman who gave birth to him. It’s all left Rocco questioning exactly who he is.

It would have been nicer to see Brook Lynn let the feud go instead of taking things a step further. She saw firsthand how finding out the details of his conception affected Gio. So why put Rocco, a young man she knows and loves, through a similar experience? Why allow another child to become collateral damage in Brook Lynn and Lulu’s ridiculous dispute?

Time to Grow Up

On top of all the above, Brook Lynn and Lulu’s constant bickering has gotten old, and having them recently exchange slaps is just plain ridiculous. Two grown women shouldn’t be behaving this badly. Motherhood is all about being selfless and putting your children’s needs above your own. So far, Lulu and Brook Lynn have failed miserably in all of these areas, and it’s a terrible representation of women and mothers.
