Rory Gibson opened up about the special method he uses when portraying a character, which came in handy for Michael and Willow’s court scenes.
General Hospital's Rory Gibson revealed what he does to get into character, to portray Michael's emotions authentically.
Now that Michael has been awarded full custody of his children, all heck is breaking loose on General Hospital. Drew and Nina are going to stop at nothing to have that verdict reversed. Or, perhaps, they will resort to more nefarious methods. Willow’s losing her mind, so she may not be in the scheming mood. Rory Gibson revealed what went into portraying Michael’s reaction to the judge’s decision.
Michael Is Relieved
Gibson sat down with Soap Opera Digest to unpack what’s going on in Michael’s world after the intense courtroom drama. Gibson explained that now that Michael has custody of Wiley (Viron Weaver) and Amelia, ”It’s an overwhelming sense of relief.” Michael had good reason to be concerned, as Drew (Cameron Mathison) has become increasingly more manipulative of Willow (Katelyn MacMullen).
He can breathe a sigh of relief now, knowing that his kids are “out from under the thumb of Drew, who has been manipulating the people that I care about,” the actor explained. He also admitted that he has never taken any acting classes or received any training. So, a lot of how he reacts as a character is real because of the way he gets into that character.
The Power of Positive Thinking
“I honestly just try to delude myself to the point where I’m believing that what’s happening in the moment of a scene is really happening,” he explained. Similar to method acting, he allows himself to feel what Michael is feeling. His emotion becomes his character’s emotion.
But as Michael, in character, he convinced himself that he was going to win the custody case against Willow. His resolve, as Michael, was so fierce that his mantra became, “There’s no other way it can go!” That power of positive thinking served Michael well. And time will tell if this is the beginning of the end for Drew.
