Our city is renowned for its vibrant nightlife, top-notch entertainment, and the 4.2-mile-long Strip, lined with big-name stars. This is why people flock here from all corners of the earth. So, what’s wrong with Golden Knights fans asking for a marquee top line this season?
Most of the discussion surrounding Mitch Marner’s arrival in Vegas has been about where he may play in the lineup. Will Bruce Cassidy put him with Jack Eichel? Will he load up the top line with Marner and Mark Stone? Or does he opt for balance and pair Marner with William Karlsson or Tomas Hertl. – SinBin.vegas, July 12th
Okay, sure, they’re all right-handed, but who in Las Vegas doesn’t want to see the shiny new toy playing along with Vegas’ two other extremely expensive items? Without question, a top line of Jack Eichel, Mitch Marner, and Mark Stone would be one of the league’s most dangerous threesomes. The puck would rarely be out of the offensive zone or on an opponent’s stick. The biggest question is, who is going to shoot?
Leafs forward Mitch Marner earned high praise for his play at the 4 Nations tournament, with Golden Knights captain Mark Stone saying he would take Mitch Marner on his team ANY day.

In many ways, a loaded top line can hurt an NHL team’s overall balance. On the flip side, a juiced-up trio can overwhelm their opponent for 20+ successful minutes a night. While Vegas has balance, they also have the luxury of starting a line with three All-Stars on one line. I want to see it, fans want to see it, I bet even The Creator would like to watch his money players at work together.
All in all, a top three of Eichel, Marner and Stone are valued at a whopping $31.5M. Currently, it would be the most expensive line in the NHL. Marner was a part of last season’s most costly line as well. When teamed up with superstars Auston Matthews and William Nylander, the trinity totaled $35.7M. So, Marner is used to playing with the highest earners and has had nothing but success in the regular season. If coach Bruce Cassidy decides to front-load their offense, that top line would cost nearly as much as San Jose and Columbus’ entire offensive unit.
Will it happen? I’m guessing it’s not the favorite. Three right-handed shots on one line are certain to raise analytical red flags. However, we will likely see all three together on special teams. Which will be must-watch TV. Next, we just need a nickname.
The Niner line? The Vault line? The Who’s Shooting Line? I’m certain some witty Golden Knights fan will come up with the perfect moniker.
