Alycia Debnam-Carey is trading in walkers for Godzilla and Kong. The Fear the Walking Dead alum has become the latest actor to join the cast of the untitled Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire sequel.
Per Deadline, character details for Debnam-Carey remain under wraps. The actor is best known for portraying Alicia Clark in all eight seasons of The Walking Dead spinoff series Fear the Walking Dead, which aired on AMC from 2015 to 2023. Her other acting credits include the 2014 found footage disaster film Into the Storm, The CW sci-fi series The 100, and the recent Netflix hit Apple Cider Vinegar. The untitled third Godzilla x Kong movie will reunite Debnam-Carey with her Apple Cider Vinegar co-star Kaitlyn Dever, who was the first actor cast in the MonsterVerse movie.
The cast of Godzilla x Kong 3 also includes Jack O’Connell (27 Years Later), Matthew Modine (Stranger Things), Delroy Lindo (Da 5 Bloods), and Dan Stevens, who is reprising his MonsterVerse role as veterinarian Trapper from The New Empire. While exact character details remain under wraps for the rest of the cast, Dever and O’Connell are reportedly playing siblings, with Lindo set as Dever’s boss at Monarch. This implies Dever's character will work for the covert organization dedicated to monitoring the Titans.
Filming Is Underway on Godzilla x Kong Sequel
Grant Sputore is directing the untitled MonsterVerse movie, which began filming last week in Queensland, Australia. The I Am Mother filmmaker took over the directorial reins from Adam Wingard following his work on The New Empire and Godzilla vs. Kong. Shang-Chi's Dave Callaham wrote the screenplay. While plot specifics remain scarce, the movie will reportedly feature the new cast of human characters working alongside the titular Titans as they face off against a cataclysmic world-ending threat.
Legendary Entertainment's MonsterVerse franchise began in 2014 with its Godzilla reboot, which was a major hit at the box office. After adding King Kong to the mix in 2017 with Kong: Skull Island, the MonsterVerse returned to Godzilla with a 2019 sequel titled Godzilla: King of the Monsters. The two Titans then fought each other in 2021's Godzilla vs. Kong, which made an impressive $470 million worldwide despite being released during the pandemic.
The 2024 sequel, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, teamed up the monsters to face an even bigger threat to humanity and the Titans. The New Empire was an even bigger success than Godzilla vs. Kong at the box office, earning $571 million worldwide to become the highest-grossing installment yet in the franchise.
The MonsterVerse has also released two television series: the animated Skull Island on Netflix and the live-action Monarch: Legacy of Monsters on Apple TV+. The latter recently wrapped production on its second season at the end of February 2025.
