Golden Knights look to replicate home success on the road

LAS VEGAS – The Vegas Golden Knights started the season on fire at home.

The question now: Can they replicate their strong play on the road?

The Golden Knights (7-2-1) will get their chance when they travel to Los Angeles for a 7 p.m. game against the Los Angeles Kings at Crypto.com Center.

“We got to find out if our game translates on the road,” Vegas coach Bruce Cassidy told reporters on Tuesday. “It should. We’re not changing. … I don’t see why we should be any better than how we finished out East.”

Carrying the Momentum

The Golden Knights swept their four-game homestand. They dominated in three of the four games, with the only hiccup being against the Ottawa Senators.

Even after allowing four goals against the Senators, Vegas outscored the opposition 24-8 in the three games. In seven home games this season, the Golden Knights scored 39 goals (5.57 goals per home game).

“It’s a lot of different things clicking. Sometimes, your team gets hot,” Cassidy said after the 5-0 victory against the Calgary Flames. “We might be going through one of those. I’d love to keep this pace. Don’t get me wrong. Things are going in for us.”

Offense wasn’t the issue the last time the Golden Knights went on the road. They scored nine goals in three road games but broke down defensively in the third period.

“The last road trip, we lost some games that we had a chance to win,” Vegas forward Nicolas Roy said.

While this trip will only be a game against the Kings, the Golden Knights aim to play well. In the last game against Los Angeles, Vegas won 6-1.

“It didn’t go their way in [Vegas],” Cassidy said. “So it’s not going to be easy tomorrow. Hopefully, our guys don’t think that just because we scored some goals on the run at home. We got to play the right way every night and stick with it.”

Kings want to bounce back

The Kings (5-3-2) are coming off a 4-2 loss against the San Jose Sharks in San Jose, Calif. on Monday.

“We better be ready to play from the opening face-off. That’s the only lesson [from this loss],” Los Angeles coach Jim Hiller told reporters Tuesday following the game.

Darcy Kuemper is expected to start in net for the Kings.
