Golden Knights look to shake off rust against Jets

The Vegas Golden Knights enjoyed their small six-day break, but they know it’s time to get back to work.

The Golden Knights return to the ice at 5 p.m. against the Winnipeg Jets at Canada Life Centre.

Vegas coach Bruce Cassidy expects there to be a little rust but knows his team can put it together when it needs to.

“Just to have our legs. Hopefully, we will simplify our games and don’t demand precise execution right away,” he said. “It has been a while for us. Not that long, but still, a break like this doesn’t come along very often in the season. So, you got to expect a little rust, but it should give you legs in the third periods in all the games on this trip.”

About the Jets against Golden Knights

The Jets dropped the first meeting against the Golden Knights 4-3 and are looking to snap a seven-game regular season losing streak.

Kyle Connor leads the team in points with 36 and goals with 16. Mark Scheifele is second with 34 points.

“We know who the drivers are on their team,” Cassidy said. “That’ll be our challenge, which is to make them go 200 feet and earn every opportunity.”

Unlike the first meeting, defending Vezina Trophy winner Connor Hellebuyck will start in net, offering a new challenge this season for the Golden Knights.

“You’re not going to get many cheap ones on him,” Cassidy said. “So, you better get inside and get high-quality looks. That’s been our formula, and that’s what worked for us.”
