One name that has made its way around trade rumors this offseason is veteran defender Erik Karlsson of the Pittsburgh Penguins. Due to the rebuild that Pittsburgh is in, the thought to trade away veterans has come about.

Pittsburgh could net some strong future assets if it decided to move Karlsson, especially with his value so high around the NHL. Multiple teams have inquired about the veteran, but so far, nothing has come close to happening.

One option for the veteran defenseman could be the Vegas Golden Knights. Vegas has never been shy about making big moves, and this could be something to help take them over the top in the Western Conference.

NHL writer Lyle Richardson of Bleacher Report linked the two sides together and predicted that Vegas could land the veteran next year.

“The Vegas Golden Knights have a reputation for making bold moves, especially at the trade deadline (hello there, Tomáš Hertl). With Alex Pietrangelo’s career likely over, they need an experienced right-shot defenseman on their top pairing. Karlsson plays a more offensive style than Pietrangelo, which could bolster their scoring punch,” Richardson wrote.

Karlsson could be a major addition to this Golden Knights blueline, and it could help get them over the hump. His offensive production would be a welcome sight for Vegas, and it would force opposing teams to take this team more seriously.

Last season with the Penguins, Karlsson put up 11 goals and 42 assists. His impact on a game shouldn’t be overstated, and Vegas has the tools to make a deal happen.

After landing star Mitch Marner this offseason, the Golden Knights are firmly in win-now mode. Bringing Karlsson to town for the final years of his career could be the next move, and it would make Vegas one of the favorites, if not the favorite, to win it all next season.
