Golden Knights' Reilly Smith Sends Message on Game-Winning Goal vs Oilers

The Vegas Golden Knights shocked the Edmonton Oilers in Game 3 of their playoff series, scoring a game-winning goal with just 0.4 seconds left in regulation. Vegas was able to use a strong push down the stretch of the game to claim the victory and avoid a 3-0 series deficit.

Golden Knights wing Reilly Smith scored the goal for Vegas, sending the Edmonton crowd into silence. Smith was able to get around the Oilers' defense, and the puck was then tipped into the net.

After the fact, Smith discussed the goal, crediting teammate William Karlsson.

“Honestly, I’ve seen (William Karlsson) use that play a few times were he forechecks and spins it out in front of the net. Jumping out from the bench, I think there was about seven seconds and I just tried to get there as fast as possible,” Smith said. “'Karl’ does a good job of hunting pucks and being the first on it and once it popped out, I saw a lot of guys sell out, so I just hoped I had enough time to kind of pump fake and find a line and it worked out.

“I think if I try to shoot that, it’s getting stopped if not by the first guy or the second guy or the goalie. Sometimes you just hope for the best and that one seemed to work out, thankfully I had enough time.”

Just before the goal, many expected this game to go to overtime. The Oilers would have had a chance to put a stranglehold on the series, but it wasn't meant to be.

With the goal, Smith may have single-handedly saved the Golden Knights' season. While a few teams have come back from a 3-0 series hole, it's a rare feat for any team to accomplish.
