Defenseman Zach Whitecloud called the Vegas Golden Knights’ play late in the 3-2 loss to the Montreal Canadiens atypical.
“It just kind of felt like we sat back a little bit too much going into the third,” Whitecloud said. “Typically, to our identity, we’re still playing on our toes and pushing the pace. And they did a good job coming through the neutral zone and, I think, creating some pressure on our end.”
Whitecloud also credited the Canadiens’ forecheck, calling it “very good.” He also added that the team took advantage of the Golden Knights’ passive play late in the game.
“They’re a fast-paced team. They’re quick. Their forwards play with pace. Their D, they all move the puck fairly quick, and that leads to their transition,” Whitecloud said. “That comes down to all of us five guys on the ice managing the puck at blue lines and red lines and those sorts of things. Obviously, you’ve got to make your plays, but if you allow fast teams to transition like that, they will take advantage of it in this league. But anyway. We’ll be right back. I think it comes down to just us defending.”
Whitecloud scored the game’s first goal, giving him two on the season.
