Golden Knіgһtѕ Forwаrd Could Loѕe Reѕtrіced Free Agent Rіgһtѕ If He Doeѕn't Meet Totаl Gаme Requіrement
Vegas Golden Knights forward Jonas Rondbjerg could lose his RFA rights if he doesn't meet the required games played.
Players who are 25 or older by the expiration of their contract need to play 80 games to retain their RFA status and if they don't, they become a Group 6 UFA.
Rondbjerg is 11 games away from that number, playing in 69 games in his career and scoring three goals and 10 points. The Golden Knights selected the 25-year-old in the third round (65th overall) in the 2017 NHL draft hoping his 6'2 frame could help him become a valuable bottom-six player.
Unfortunately for him and the Golden Knights, he's struggled at both the NHL and AHL. His first years with the Henderson Silver Knights were positive but the next years were followed by stagnate development or regression.
Rondbjerg isn't the only player who could be heading towards the Group 6 UFA status. Grigori Denisenko is 24 years old but will be 25 by the time his contract expires and needs 46 games to retain his RFA status which is now impossible due to the Golden Knights already playing 40 games this year.
Denisenko was acquired through waivers but was once a first-round pick of the Florida Panthers. The two forwards were both expected to be impact NHLers but have yet to reach that.
Despite the high possibility of both forwards losing their RFA status, the Golden Knights could still offer the two of them extensions in the offseason.
