Good Morning Britain showbiz regular Richard Arnold was on hand to break the news of a major shake-up in the semi-finals of Britain's Got Talent, which are set to kick off next month.
During Wednesday's edition of Good Morning Britain, showbiz expert Richard Arnold unveiled some explosive news about the forthcoming season of Britain's Got Talent.A thrilled Richard announced: "I can exclusively reveal another change to this year's format, introducing the brand new live semi-final golden buzzer!
"For the first time in BGT history, the buzzer will now appear during the live rounds. It has already been pressed eight times this series."
Last month, Simon Cowell was accused of 'breaking the rules' after using his golden buzzer twice in the series.
Simon told act Electric Umbrella that he felt like he was watching a movie as they performed and was so impressed he gave them a Golden Buzzer.
The judge told the band made up of musicians with learning disabilities, who performed an original song about acceptance and understanding they were "spectacular".
The choir and musicians thrilled those in the audience and Simon explained he had run out of Golden Buzzers and usually judges are only given the option to hit it once. However, he 'broke show rules' to send the group straight to the live semi-finals, leaving his co-stars in shock.
Originally, when the golden buzzer was introduced back in 2014, it allowed each judge, as well as presenting pair Ant and Dec, one opportunity to smash it, propelling an act straight from the auditions into the semi-finals. However, they have since used it on multiple occasions across various audition rounds, reports the Mirror.
To date, ITV audiences have witnessed performers such as Vinnie McKee, Will Burns, Stacey Leadbetter, Olly Pearson, The Blackouts, and Linda Mudzenda all take advantage of the golden buzzer's privileges.
Providing further details on the revamped feature, Richard elaborated: "This year, one judge or Ant and Dec will be allowed to use the golden buzzer in the semi-finals as well.
"It'll give their chosen act a spot in the grand finale in May. The other acts will then face the public vote as usual."Charlotte Hawkins reacted with a laugh: "They (the judges) are going to be fighting over that, aren't they?!"Fans of the much-loved talent show will notice a significant change in its format this year, especially with the semi-final broadcasts being altered.
The semi-finals have traditionally unfolded nightly across a week, culminating in the live final. However, this season sees a new approach, with the semi-finals spread out over five weeks, commencing on April 26.
Adding to the intrigue this season is the introduction of KSI as a guest judge on the panel. Prior to his appearance, he shared his excitement: "I'm so excited to be a guest judge for Britain's Got Talent. When I got the call-up, I couldn't believe it."
KSI also reflected on his previous experiences with BGT: "I remember watching old BGT episodes and going from being amazed to laughing my arse off. I'm buzzing to see all the fresh new talent, and I'll be sure to leave a mark!".
