«Graphics are a bomb»: The Last of Us Part 2 remaster launched with 91% positive reviews on Steam

The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered is finally available on Steam and the Epic Games Store — this time the port turned out to be good at launch.

Now PC users can personally relive the story that happened to Joel and Ellie after the events of the first part. It will be more enjoyable to do so, since the restart «graphics are a bomb» and the port works stably. At the same time, Naughty Dog showed a release trailer.

The launch of the second part on PC went off without a hitch, what we can’t remember about the first one. Back then, Iron Galaxy worked on the port, which was criticized after the release due to technical problems. This time, Iron Galaxy and Nixxes Software (responsible for most PC versions of Sony games) worked together. On a technical level, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered supports everything a modern player needs:

  • NVIDIA DLSS
  • AMD FSR 3.1
  • Intel XeSS
  • DLAA
  • DualSense adaptive triggers and haptic feedback
  • Support for ultra-wide monitors and HDR

In addition, the remaster has DirectStorage, a bunch of graphic sliders, spatial sound, and the ability to adjust film grain or camera shake. But there is no ray tracing, although those who do not like RT can be happy about this.

DLSS works well, even without support for the latest features, like DLSS 4. Playing in 4K with DLAA on top-of-the-line hardware, the game delivers up to 185 FPS, and with DLSS Performance, it can even push up to 190. There are almost no brakes, even in complex scenes, but some players still complained about freezes.

The game itself the game (logically) repeats the PS5 version: the same story, the same survival mode «No Return», the same new maps and characters (Bill and Marlene). Currently, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered has already started receiving reviews on Steam: 91% of them are positive.

«Leaving a positive review right away because IT RUNS REALLY WELL. Superb port compared to the first one’s absolutely botched performance», — players write.

Many users pointed out that the port of the first part was much worse than this one. Although the Part 2 remaster is definitely far from perfect, it still has good results.

«A great game that runs extremely well, totally recommend it», — added in the reviews.

Although some have encountered «crazy» performance issues. For example, one user advised to keep a brick on his desk and throw it at the monitor «every time your frames drop below 60» for the full experience.

But if you don’t plan to smash your equipment with bricks, then on Steam and Epic Games Store the game costs ₴1,499. To find out what hardware will support the game, you can check out system requirements for it. Overall, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered is not perfect, but it’s solid, especially before the release of the second season of the series from HBO. Launch a series with stalkers and a story that was not in the game will be held on April 13.
