Green Bay Packers: Jordan Love Reveals the Wide Receiver He Would 'Definitely Take' in the 2025 NFL Draft

Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love is not one to tell the front office what he wants them to do. Whereas his predecessor, Aaron Rodgers, made many demands of general manager Brian Gutekunst, Love is content allowing him to do his job, and trusting him to put the best possible team around him.

The Packers quarterback said as much during a recent appearance on the “Up and Adams” podcast. “I kind of just let them do their thing, you know? They’re the pros at this, at going through the draft process, interviewing all these guys, and figuring out who is going to be a good player/fit,” Love stated.

“But also, a good locker room fit for the team. That’s a huge part of it, is guys coming in and ready to learn, compete, and be a good teammate.

“You know, I kind of just let them handle their business. The draft is always a hectic period. You never know who you’re going to get, what pick, what trades are going to happen. So, I just like to sit back and take it all in, and be ready to reach out to those guys after the fact.”

But that does not mean there are not any specific players that he is not eyeing.

Green Bay Packers Quarterback Jordan Love Would Not Mind Jalen Royals of Utah State Being Selected in the 2025 NFL Draft

During that same appearance on “Up and Adams,” Love was asked by host Kay Adams if, since he is not actively trying to influence Gutekunst’s decisions, if he is leaving DVD’s of film containing highlights of Utah State wide receiver Jalen Royals around for the Packers general manager to find.

Love, of course, went to Utah State himself, though he was drafted by Green Bay before Royals started playing for the Aggies.

“I think being from Utah State myself having a receiver like Jalen Royals, you know, who came out and made a name for himself, you know, I think they have watched plenty of tape on him.

“They probably know that I would definitely take a fellow Aggie myself, so we’ll see what happens. I’m excited to see where he ends up.”

Aside from sharing an alma mater, Love has plenty of reasons to want Royals on his team.

Jalen Royals Would Be a Great Day-Two Pick for the Green Bay Packers in the 2025 NFL Draft

Royals stands six feet tall and weighs 205 pounds, which puts him right at the thresholds that Green Bay likes in their wide receivers. According to NFL analyst and draft expert Lance Zierlein, he is projected to a second or third round pick after playing just seven games due to a foot injury. In those seven games, though, Royals had 55 receptions for 834 yards and six touchdowns.

In 2023, playing a full season, he had 71 receptions for 1,080 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Zierlein wrote of Royals:

“Skilled and instinctive, Royals might lack the desired explosiveness, but he makes up for it with his body control and feel for the game. He has good size and is keenly aware of defenders around him, which allows him to adjust routes and improve his chances on contested catches.

“He’s a decent route-runner but doesn’t have the short-area foot quickness and burst to open wide windows for his quarterback. He’s excellent as a zone-beater and uses plus body control and play strength to bring in catches in traffic. Royals is a smooth athlete who can play inside or outside and is best suited for an offense that will value him as a possession target over the first two levels.”

As the Packers already have a slot receiver in Jayden Reed, Royals would likely see most of his snaps as a boundary wide receiver. With Christian Watson out for the start of the season due to recovering from his torn ACL, a player like Royals would certainly get an opportunity to earn some good playing time, especially if they can avoid drops.
