The Green Bay Packers are fairly well-known for keeping what happens during their practices off of social media. While fans are allowed to come and observe practice from time to time, they are not typically allowed to film for very long, if at all. The reason the team gives is that they do not want opposing teams to have extra footage of their plays.
For a while now, fans have pushed back at the notion because, well, the Packers run the plays they practice during games and NFL teams have access to that footage. What kind of an advantage would a short 10-second clip from a practice in June give their opponents?
But on Wednesday, there was a play that was so beautifully executed by the offense that the Packers themselves put it out on social media.
According to multiple reporters, Jordan Love threw a beautiful 70-yard pass to new wide receiver Mecole Hardman, who ran it in for a touchdown at the very end of practice.
After a few minutes of fans wishing they could have seen what the reporters saw, the Packers themselves posted the video on their own social media:
Indeed, it was an exciting play, and one that bodes well for Hardman as he tries to earn a roster spot in what has become a very crowded wide receiver room in Green Bay.
After practice, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur praised the throw, but also said that, had it been a real game, he is not sure if Love would have gotten the throw off. He believes his quarterback might have been sacked had he not been wearing that red no-contact jersey.
