The Pittsburgh Penguins will see two of their top prospects play for Team Canada during Tuesday's intersquad World Junior Summer Showcase.
Defenseman Harrison Brunicke and forward Ben Kindel will play for Team Red against Team White at 5:30 p.m. ET. Brunicke is on the top pairing alongside 2025 first overall pick Matthew Schaefer, while Kindel is on the second line with Cole Reschny and Michael Hage.
The fact that Brunicke is set to be paired with Schaefer says a lot. Yes, it's only a scrimmage, but Team Canada sees Brunicke as one of their best options on the backend for this year's summer showcase.
Kindel will also get to play with two top prospects and show off his skills after dominating the WHL this past season, finishing with 35 goals and 99 points in 65 games. He was the 12th overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft.
Tuesday's intersquad game will feature two 15-minute periods and one 16-minute period that will start with a power play for one team. If that team scores on the power play, the other team will get a PP. However, if no goal is scored, the two sides will play at 5v5 until a whistle is blown and then repeat the same PP format.
Canada will be in action again on Wednesday when it takes on Finland. The lineup for that game will be announced before it starts.
