The Flyers have found gold in the Tyson Foerster-Noah Cates–Bobby Brink line. Now, the Flyers may have found something in a new line.
Since the January 11th game against the Anaheim Ducks, Morgan Frost has been centering a line with Owen Tippett and Travis Konecny. Frost had been bouncing around this season, centering several different line combinations for the Flyers this season.
Frost has played a lot with Owen Tippett this season, but now, playing with Travis Konecny, Frost is producing better than he had been all season.
Before the new Frost line was put together, the 25-year-old center played 38 games, tallying 19 points (8G, 11 A), putting him on pace for 41 points this season.
Since the new Frost line was formed, Frost has scored five points in five games (3G, 2A) and a point in four straight games (he also scored against Dallas one game before the line was formed, making it a five-game point streak). Frost has also been positive (+3 total) in every game he has played with the new line.
Frost has also found himself on the top-power play unit, playing with his new linemates, Matvei Michkov and Jamie Drysdale. Frost’s play since December 19th has earned him the ice time. 12 (7G, 5A) of Frost’s 24 points have come in the last month.
Consistency is key, and the Flyers may have found a second consistent line.
Owen Tippett has four points (2G, 2A) in five games since the line’s formation, scoring a point in three of the five games. He had a multi-point game (1G, 1A) against Anaheim.
Travis Konecny is playing some of the best hockey of his career, but it has just been that kind of season for him. Konecny has eight points (1G, 7A) in five games. Konecny has been producing at 5-on-5 and the power play. With his recent point surge, Konecny has pushed himself into the top-1o in points in the NHL this season with 54. He is one shy of Jack Hughes for 9th.
Between the three players, the Frost line is responsible for 17 points (6G, 11A) for the Flyers over the past five games. It seems as if the Flyers may have their top-six straightened out.
