Hometown forward is missing from the Canadiens' lineup and journalist Anthony Marcotte reveals the reason

A hometown forward is indeed missing from the 2024 Montreal Canadiens training camp, and journalist Anthony Marcotte has an update.

It went under the radar, but forward Jacob Perreault has been absent since the very beginning of camp. He was acquired from the Anaheim Ducks in a trade on March 7 (in exchange for Jan Mysak).

That said, Perreault is training alone in Brossard, working on his fitness after undergoing shoulder surgery a few months ago.

We may see him return soon to join the other players at camp.

Jacob Perreault is not with the regular groups at the Montreal Canadiens training camp

Without much fanfare, Perreault is a 1st-round pick from the 2020 NHL Draft (by the Anaheim Ducks) and is only 22 years old.

Perreault, a Montreal native, is a 5'11' forward weighing 192 pounds who tallied 20 points in the AHL in the 2023-2024 season.

Jacob Perreault has been training alone in Brossard since the start of camp. He underwent shoulder surgery at the end of last season and is completing the stages of his recovery before resuming regular training soon. That's why he hasn't been seen at camp.

He isn't necessarily a candidate to crack the regular lineup of the Montreal Canadiens this season, so it's probably best for him to take his time and focus on the Laval Rocket's training camp, which is coming up fairly soon.

The next season will be a crucial one for Jacob Perreault if he hopes to eventually establish himself as a potential NHL player, rather than just a solid AHL player.

He seems to have the right attitude, at least, especially for a player who now has the chance to play at home.
