The Houston Texans must be excited after seeing some of the things they have seen the last two weeks at OTAs. This week, they have seen Stefon Diggs, their newest weapon, get integrated into the offense with C.J. Stroud, Nico Collins, and Tank Dell.
Dell, who missed a good chunk of the season last year with an injury, is not back at OTAs, and he's looking better than you would expect for someone who broke their fibula in Week 12 against the Denver Broncos. Now, Dell is back and making some huge plays at OTAs.
Obviously, OTAs will never showcase the legit defense played during the season. There are no pads on, and the intensity is not near the intensity of what the players will face in an actual game. Nonetheless, these players, including Dell, are making big plays.
Dell has a way of finding gaps and space in a route tree. If the defense is playing a zone defense, Dell is exceptional at finding a spot and sitting in it. His speed can take the top off of the defense, but his ability to stop on a dime is also elite.
During the seven-on-seven drills, he showed that he stopped at the top of his route with two defensive backs on both sides of him, sat there, and waited for C.J. Stroud to fire the ball into him in a tight space. It was a pretty nice play that shows that Dell is fully healthy.
The offense last year was still very good when Dell was out. But that doesn't mean he isn't a valuable piece. If he does get hurt, or Diggs or Collins gets hurt, they now have two other guys who are the No. 1 receivers on any other team. But with all three of them, they are virtually unguardable.
With Dell's return and his significant contributions to the offense, the upcoming season promises to be a thrilling one for the Texans. His presence on the field is a key factor in the team's potential success, making the offense a force to be reckoned with.
