Timmins has played 50 games with the Maple Leafs since being acquired by the organization in Nov. 2022.
Conor Timmins is entering the Toronto Maple Leafs' final pre-season game with something to prove.
Timmins has played in two pre-season games thus far with Toronto, averaging over 20 minutes in each contest. And now, as we enter the dog days of training camp, the 26-year-old seems to be finding a spot in the Maple Leafs' top six on defense.
"Yeah, it's going to be fun. I haven't played a home game yet this preseason, so that'll be good to play in front of the fans," Timmins said on Saturday morning. "Like I said, as a team, we just want to dial in our details and make sure we're playing the right way."
Since arriving in Toronto, the defenseman has had difficulty remaining in Toronto's lineup. He's never been able to stick due to injuries and other players beating him out of a spot on the back end.
As we approach the regular season, with Timothy Liljegren as one of the odd men out on defense, it appears Timmins could play in the season opener on Wednesday in Montreal.
"I've just been worried about playing my own game. I think it fits well into the system, just playing hard, playing fast, moving pucks up, and it's been a good fit so far."
Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube agrees with that sentiment.
"He's played well. I think he's been highly competitive. First and foremost, playing defense, you've got to defend and be competitive and do all the things there that we need. But I like the puck movement. He moves the puck well, sees the ice well, and moves it well."
Timmins enters Saturday night playing alongside new father, Simon Benoit. They've skated together in practice throughout the last few days and the pair hope to make the best of their time together.
"I love it," Timmins said. "I think we complement each other really well. Great friends off the ice, so it's been fun."
