Picking up months after the end of Star Trek: Discovery season 2, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds begins in 2259. By the end of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2, roughly a year has passed, and the Star Trek prequel series is now in the year 2260. Given the growth of Ensign Nyota Uhura's (Celia Rose Gooding) hair and a shot in Strange New Worlds season 3's teaser trailer of a sign marking the United Federation of Planets' centennial, Strange New Worlds season 3 will have a time jump to 2261.
Star Trek: The Original Series begins in 2265, which would make Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 about 4-5 years before Kirk becomes Captain of the Enterprise. Strange New Worlds also doesn't measure time by a year every season, and the passing of time is elastic according to the needs of the series. With a half dozen of Captain Kirk's future Enterprise crew now aboard Captain Pike's Enterprise in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3, here's how old they are compared to Star Trek: The Original Series.
6Lieutenant James T. Kirk
Born In 2233 In Iowa
In 2265, James T. Kirk becomes Captain of the Enterprise at age 32, making him one of the youngest starship Captains in Starfleet. In Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Jim came aboard the Starship Enterprise to learn pointers on how to be a First Officer from Lt. Commander Una Chin-Riley (Rebecca Romijn) and to see his older brother, Lt. Sam Kirk (Dan Jeannotte). Jim also has a growing attraction to Lt. La'an Noonien-Singh (Christina Chong), and Kirk was introduced to Lt. Spock (Ethan Peck) by Ensign Uhura in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2.
5Lieutenant Spock
Born In 2230 On Vulcan
Lieutenant Spock is 31 when Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 time jumps to 2261. The half-Vulcan and half-human son of Ambassador Sarek (Mark Lenard, James Frain) and Amanda Grayson (Jane Wyatt, Mia Kirshner), Ensign Spock came aboard the USS Enterprise as a Science Officer in 2254. In Strange New Worlds season 3, Spock will have served aboard the Enterrpise for about 7 years, and the Vulcan is currently Chief Science Officer.
When Captain Kirk takes command of the Starship Enterprise, Commander Spock (Leonard Nimoy) remains aboard in the dual role of First Officer and Science Officer at around age 35. Spock's indomitable friendship with Kirk hasn't truly begun yet, and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 will form the foundation of their bond. Spock and Kirk will serve aboard the USS Enterprise together for the next 30 years, and their final mission is Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country in 2293.
4Ensign Nyota Uhura
Born In 2237 In Kenya
After Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' time jump to 2161, Ensign Nyota Uhura is 24 years old. Uhura came aboard the USS Enterprise as a top-rated Starfleet Academy cadet in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 1. Uhura rotated in various departments, and was mentored in Engineering by the late Lt. Hemmer (Bruce Horak). However, Uhura's calling is on the Enterprise's bridge, and she became Communications Officer along her promotion to Ensign in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2.
In Star Trek: The Original Series, Uhura (Nichelle Nichols) is promoted to Lieutenant, and she remains Communications Officer aboard Captain Kirk's Enterprise starting at about age 28. Lt. Uhura stays with the Enterprise for the next 30 years, and her final mission as a member of Captain Kirk's crew is in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.
3Nurse Christine Chapel
Birthdate Unknown
Although Nurse Christine Chapel was introduced in 1966, Star Trek has surprisingly not established Chapel's date or place of birth. In Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 1, Nurse Chapel (Jess Bush) is a Klingon War veteran who developed Starfleet's technology to surgically alter humans into aliens. Chapel serves in the USS Enterprise's Sickbay alongside Dr. Joseph M'Benga (Babs Olusanmokun), and she's torn between her romance with Lt. Spock and her career aspirations in archeological medicine.
Jess Bush is 33 and Nurse Chapel appears to be roughly the same age in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
2Lieutenant Montgomery Scott
Born In 2222 In Scotland
Lt. Montgomery "Scotty" Scott (Martin Quinn) is, surprisingly, 39, in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3's 2261 timeframe. Given that Martin Quinn is only 31, he is playing Scotty as more youthful than his age would indicate. Scotty was introduced in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2's finale. An engineer aboard the USS Stardiver, Scotty joins the USS Enterprise crew after his previous ship was destroyed by the Gorn.
1Dr. Joseph M'Benga
Born In 2233 In Kenya
Dr. Joseph M'Benga is 38 when Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 takes place in 2161. A Klingon War veteran, M'Benga has a dark past as a Starfleet assassin. Aboard the Starship Enterprise, Dr. M'Benga is Chief Medical Officer, and he has a wife named Debra and a daughter named Rukiya (Sage Arrindell, Makambe Simamba), who was dying of an uncurable disease before she merged with a noncorporeal entity in the Jonsian Nebula.Dr. M'Benga exits the USS Enterprise by the time Captain Kirk takes command, and Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy becomes Kirk's Chief Medical Officer. However, Dr. M'Benga (Booker Bradshaw), an expert in Vulcan physiology, makes two appearances in Star Trek: The Original Series when he's in his mid-40s. Until then, Dr. M'Benga remains Captain Pike's choice as Chief Medical Officer in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3.
