Howie Roseman reloads and refines roster after one day of training camp

Howie Roseman is continuing to work, as the Eagles begin their 2025 training camp.

The team has announced the movement of seven players as it prepares to defend its 2024 title. Following the signings of Ogbo Okoronkwo and defensive tackle Jacob Sykes, the team made additional transactions while also adding another piece to the defensive line room.

The Eagles also opted to sign Joe Evans, one of the three defensive linemen who worked out with Jacob Sykes on Monday. Evans was with the Colts as a 2025 undrafted free agent, but was released after several days in May.

The Eagles opted to waive defensive end K.J. Henry and running back Lew Nichols, along with waiving guard Marcus Tate with an injury designation. Henry has spent the majority of his career as a reserve defensive lineman, signing with the Eagles on their practice squad in November, earning a championship ring with the team. Henry was claimed off waivers by the Cleveland Browns several hours after his release.

Nichols has been a project player for the Eagles since 2023, spending his time in Philadelphia on and off the practice squad. Nichols has been signed and released nine times by Roseman and has yet to appear in an NFL game or even be elevated. Marcus Tate was also waived with an injury designation after the first day of practice. Tate is a 2025 undrafted free agent, looking to make his first impression in the NFL.

The most notable transaction was Nakobe Dean beginning the season on PUP. Dean is still recovering from a knee injury during the playoffs in the Wild Card Game vs. the Green Bay Packers. According to defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, this is not surprising given his injury.

Players listed on the active PUP list may be taken off at any time and still count towards the 90-man roster during training camp. While it's possible Dean could be practicing towards the end of camp, it's likely he reverts to the Reserve PUP, forcing him to miss four games to begin the season.
