“I left behind love, a house, and an entire past” – Adam Lambert, 43, ends his 4-year relationship and sells his multi-million dollar mansion as he begins a bold new chapter on the musical stage alongside Cynthia Erivo.

Adam Lambert is turning a new leaf, back in Los Angeles after spending six months in New York starring on Broadway in “Cabaret.” The “American Idol” alum is suddenly single, moving out of his Los Angeles mansion, and preparing for an exciting new gig.

On July 22, 2025, TMZ reported that Lambert and his boyfriend of over four years, Oliver Gliese, broke up sometime in the last month. News of their breakup came one day after Lambert sold his Hollywood Hills house for $6.2 million.

While he’s clearly letting things go in his personal life, Lambert is adding a new role professionally, preparing to co-star with Cynthia Erivo in “Jesus Christ Superstar” at the Hollywood Bowl.

Adam Lambert & Oliver Giese Were First Spotted Together in 2020

Lambert, who became one of the most successful “American Idol” alums after being named runner-up to Kris Allen in 2009, was first spotted with Gliese in November 2020. In photos published by Just Jared, they were seen having fun in the surf while vacationing in Tulum, Mexico. The outlet reported at the time that Gliese, who is from Denmark, worked as the Innovation Forum Assistant for Global Fashion Agenda.

The two went public with their relationship in May 2021, according to TMZ. In June 2024, Lambert told People that after years of overworking, he stepped back a bit and was able to nurture a relationship with Giese, which inspired his EP “Afters.”

Lambert told the outlet, “I’ve been able to have a bit more of a personal life for a little while, and I’m in an amazing relationship and we socialize a lot and put on a lot of parties and we go out, and I just wanted to make music that sort of reflected that experience, that reflected that reality.”

Sources told TMZ that Lambert and Giese naturally grew apart over time and that their breakup was an “amicable, clean, drama-free split.” Although photos of Gliese are no longer featured in Lambert’s Instagram feed, Gliese’s account still featured many images of the two together as of July 22.

Adam Lambert is Moving On, Focusing on His Love of Musical Theater

News of Lambert’s breakup comes on the heels of him selling the Hollywood Hills home he bought in 2018. He listed the 5,000 square foot house in May for $7.4 million, per The Robb Report. According to TMZ, the contemporary home sold on July 21 for $6.2 million, taking a $300,000 loss.

It’s not clear where he plans to move, but for now, Lambert is focused on preparing for his latest role, starring as Judas in “Jesus Christ Superstar” from August 1 – 3.

His Broadway debut and new role have been a long time coming. Before Lambert competed in 2009 on “American Idol,” landing as runner-up to Kris Allen, he was part of the ensemble cast for the Los Angeles production and national tour of “Wicked,” according to Variety.

Late on July 22, Lambert wrote in his Instagram Stories that he had just finished rehearsals with Erivo, gushing, “This woman blows my mind. Her voice, her presence, the power AND vulnerability … She opened a door to truth for me today. She makes everyone else around her better. Truly awe inspiring. Thank you Cynthia. I’m so honored to share the stage and tell this story with you. 🤍”

Passionate again about music theater, Lambert told the outlet he’s also busy writing an original musical that’s “definitely got a rock ‘n’ roll spirit. It takes place in the ’70s in New York. It’s glam. And that’s kind of all I can say.”
