However, despite being under the thumb of the Burazi for most of season 2, Negan's Walking Dead spinoff story finally took a major turn, as the protagonist has seemingly begun planning his escape. While his main goal will be to escape the island with his family, it appears as though Negan may also want to bring peace to Manhattan, meaning he'll have to take down all of its main threats. Achieving this will undoubtedly be difficult, but his manipulation has already caused the death of one antagonist, and I'm confident he won't leave the city without killing his long-term foe.
Negan Will Surely Kill The Croat After What He Did To Christos’ Group
The Croat Has Crossed Too Many Lines For Negan To Spare Him
Despite getting off on the wrong foot, Negan and Christos looked like they were about to come to an understanding before the Croat arrived. Rather than forming an alliance as the Dama ordered, the Croat killed Christos and his men using gas, patting himself on the back for not murdering the women and children too, as if it was some sort of consolation. Naturally, Negan was devastated that these innocent survivors were not only left without any real supplies, but they now had no one to defend them, furthering the resentment he felt towards the Croat.
As a result, Negan looks certain to avenge all the people the Croat has wronged by finally taking down the villain, and his plan already appears to be in motion. Having turned the Dama and the Croat against each other, the villains' tension reached a boiling point which seemed to result in the Dama's death. While Negan will presumably take the role of the Croat's right-hand man and continue influencing him for the remainder of season 2, he will surely just be biding his time and waiting for the right opportunity to stab his enemy in the back.
Negan may also turn his attention to Bruegel and Dead City's other remaining villains, but taking down the Croat will surely be the priority, especially since the antagonist has rubbed him the wrong way for most of the season. The Croat may still believe in his head that he and Negan are friends, but the feeling certainly isn't mutual, meaning the former Savior is likely living on borrowed time.
Negan Killing The Croat Has Been A Long Time Coming
Negan's History With The Croat Stems Back To The Start Of The Apocalypse
Despite having to flee Sanctuary, the Croat doesn't seem to hold much of a grudge in Dead City, but Negan still clearly feels animosity towards his former comrade.
Unfortunately for Negan, he wasn't quite able to land his shot, hitting the Croat's ear instead who managed to escape. Despite having to flee Sanctuary, the Croat doesn't seem to hold much of a grudge in Dead City, but Negan still clearly feels animosity towards his former comrade. This disdain has only grown while being in the Croat's presence, as the villain has shown no sign of change and remains as ruthless and violent as he was all those years ago.
Considering Dead City season 2's timeline places it almost two decades into the apocalypse, it can be presumed these two have known each other since almost the beginning, as the Saviors battled Rick just a few years after the outbreak. Therefore, Negan finally executing the Croat has been a long time coming, and it may wind up being his most satisfying kill throughout his time in The Walking Dead.
