Important update on Tyler Myers' new deal: Willing to take one for the team?

Patrik Allvin has 11 contracts to either renew or replace. If the Canucks' GM intends to be as competitive as they were in 2023-2024, he'll have to find contract gems to make it work.

Allvin indicated that he had no intentions of discussing extensions for his pending free agents when he inked Elias Pettersson's deal unless they were willing to sign a very team-friendly deal. There's been lots of talk lately about Tyler Myers, his emergence under Tocchet's staff, and his future in Vancouver.

The latest market report and contract projection indicated that the veteran could fetch north of $3M for the next two to three years if he made it to free agency. Both he and his agent have made it very clear that Myers' top destination remained the Canucks. The speculation suggested that Myers was discussing a three-year deal worth $9M, but Frank Seravalli updated earlier on Myers and his contract talks.

According to the insider, Myers would be willing to sign a contract in the low 2's if it meant having an extra year on his deal. Making him one of the team's best cost-effective contracts:

"I think you can get creative with that and say...we'll give you an extra year if you can keep it in the low 2's."
