Indianapolis Colts’ 2025 NFL schedule release: The NFL told the Colts how they really feel about them and it's their own fault

The Indianapolis Colts are coming off yet another season where they failed to accomplish their goal of playing postseason football.

Indianapolis Colts’ 2025 NFL schedule release: The NFL told the Colts how they really feel about them and it's their own fault

They finished the year 8-9, which was good enough for second in the AFC South, but they were left out of the AFC playoff picture. They enter the 2025 season after an offseason where they were much more active in free agency than fans expected.

We are now approaching the start of training camp, but before the team can adequately prepare for the season, they need to know their schedule. Well, that box has now been checked as the NFL 2025 schedule release reveals when the team will travel to Germany, who they play for their season opener, and more.

Biggest Games on the Colts' 2025 Schedule

Colts @ Chiefs: Anytime you get to face the conference's top team, it is a solid opportunity to show how. You measure up in the AFC. The Chiefs represented the AFC in the Super Bowl last season, though they fell short in the big game. To make this one even more difficult, the Colts are traveling to Arrowhead to take on Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. While it's a chance for the Colts to pull off an upset, I'm sure the Chiefs would also like to pay the Colts back for multiple shocking losses they've experienced over the past few years.

AFC South games: The Colts have to improve in the AFC South if they want to win the division for the first time since 2014. They were swept by the Texans last season and dropped one of their matchups with the Jaguars to finish with a pretty uninspiring 3-3 record.

Colts vs. Dolphins: The Colts kick off the 2025 season with a bang as they take on the explosive Dolphins offense in Week 1. They won the matchup last year, but Miami was missing starting QB Tua Tagovailoa, and the Colts could only pull out a 16-10 win. This will be a fantastic opening test for a new-look Colts secondary that will be tasked with slowing down the Dolphins' dynamic WR duo of Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.

Primetime Games and Streaming Service Broadcasts

Which games will be primetime viewing?

The Colts typically finish near the bottom of the league in primetime games. This year, they finished tied for the second-fewest in the league, with their lone primetime game set for Week 16 on Monday Night Football against the 49ers. It might seem harsh for the Colts, who finished just a few spots outside of the playoffs, to be in the same category with teams that were terrible in 2024. But the Colts have stacked mediocre seasons over the past few years. So until they prove the NFL wrong, this is the type of treatment they will get because it's the type of treatment they deserve.

  • Week 16: vs. 49ers MNF

Strength of Schedule (based on Vegas win totals, not the 2024 record)

Warren Sharp of Sharp Football Analysis ranks teams' strength of schedule based on Juice (Vegas' projected win totals for the upcoming season). This year, Sharp has the Colts' SOS at the 12th, which means they've actually have the 20th-toughest schedule in the NFL this season. TVegashhasalso biven athe Colts  7.5 total win line

Revenge Games on the Chiefs' 2025 schedule

  • Colts vs. Broncos: Though their loss to the Broncos didn't officially end their playoff hopes, it was arguably the most back-breaking loss of the season. A win and they were in the driver's seat for a wildcard spot, and a loss and their odds plummeted, and well, we know how that ended. They get the chance to get their revenge early in Week 2, and this time the Broncos are making the trip to Indianapolis.

  • Colts @ Jaguars: This one shouldn't shock anyone. The Colts haven't won in Jacksonville since 2014. No matter the team that has suited up for the Colts in that span, they haven't been able to get a win in Jacksonville. 2025 will give them the chance to end this embarrassing streak. Hopefully, the team is at least half as eager as the fan base to end it.

  • Colts vs. Texans: For a second straight year, the Colts finished second in the AFC South behind the Texans. This past year, though, the Colts were swept by Houston to make things feel even worse. They will get two chances to right that wrong from a year ago, including a season finale in Houston, and who knows, maybe the division crown is on the line for that matchup just like in 2023.

5 Must-watch Matchups

  • Colts' new-look defense vs. No. 1 pick Cam Ward: One of the most intriguing additions inside the AFC South this offseason was the Titans selecting Miami QB Cam Ward with the first pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. He is pretty much a lock to be their day one starter, and the Colts will get their first crack at him in Week 3 in Tennessee.

  • Tyler Warren vs George Kittle & Travis Kelce: The Colts landed arguably the most talked-about TE prospect of the 2025 NFL Draft in Penn State's Tyler Warren. And during his first year in the NFL, he is going to get the chance to see two of the best TEs of this generation on the opposite sideline in George Kittle and Travis Kelce. Getting to play on the same field as two hall of famers at the position, like Kittle and Kelce, will be a moment Warren will probably never forget.

  • New Colts CB Charvarius Ward vs. his old team (49ers): The Colts' matchup with the 49ers will be special in multiple ways, with their big free agency signing, Charvarius Ward, set to play the team he spent the past three years with. When you get the chance to beat your former team, it becomes some massive motivation for players, and I expect that to be the case with Ward.

  • Colts vs. Travis Hunter (both sides of the ball): The 2025 NFL Draft not only brought the number one pick into the AFC South but the second pick as well. The Jaguars made one of the boldest moves of the draft to trade up for the two-way phenom Travis Hunter. The Colts will get to play him twice a year for the foreseeable future, and they get their first look at him Week 14 in Jacksonville.

  • Tyler Warren vs. Brock Bowers: Tyler Warren not only will get to face off with two of the greatest TEs of his lifetime this season, but will also get to measure up against the biggest rising star at the TE position in the NFL today in Brock Bowers. The Colts are set to host the Raiders in Week 5, and we will get to see the 13th pick of the 2024 NFL Draft take on the 14th pick of the 2025 NFL Draft.
