Indianapolis Colts TE Jelani Woods' NFL career hit another bump in the road with his most recent injury

The rough start to Jelani Woods' young NFL career continues.
With the third-year Indianapolis Colts tight end being placed on the season-ending IR.

The Colts drafted Woods with the 73rd pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. During his rookie season, he appeared in 15 games and recorded 25 catches, 312 yards and three touchdowns.

He entered year two with many expecting a big jump from the TE, but a lingering hamstring injury forced him to miss his entire sophomore season. And now he has lost his third year to a severe case of turf toe.

Many speculated Woods was on the roster bubble after a lackluster training camp during an ongoing battle at TE. We may never know if the Colts planned on keeping him on the 53-man roster, but their choosing to use their two designated to-return IR spots on different players doesn't seem like a good sign he was going to make it.

Next year is now a literal make-or-break year for Woods as he will enter the final year of his rookie contract only playing in one of his first three seasons. And with the team having multiple young TEs on the roster, his odds of making next year's roster might just be an uphill battle.
