After the Indianapolis Colts waived Marcel Dabo, what does the safety depth chart now look like?
Dabo had been on the Colts' practice squad the last three seasons as an International Pathway Player (IPP).
As a designated IPP, Dabo received an exemption to be on the practice squad, which allowed the Colts to carry 17 players instead of the usual 16. However, he was not eligible to be added to the 53-man roster at any point or elevated on gameday. This was strictly a developmental role.
During his tenure, Dabo did not play any regular-season snaps. In the preseason, he played 114 on defense, according to PFF, making six tackles.
Dabo once again received the IPP designation for the 2025 season prior to his release.
So, moving on from Dabo may not impact the 53-man roster, but it further highlights the overall lack of depth at this position group.
While we know that Cam Bynum and Nick Cross will be the starters, behind them are Rodney Thomas, Daniel Scott, who has missed his first two NFL seasons due to injuries, and potentially Hunter Wohler, if the Colts don't keep him at linebacker.
With only four--or maybe five--safeties on the roster, an addition prior to training camp to at least boost the numbers very well could be in play.
