Injury Update: Tyrod Taylor Set to Miss Preseason After Knee Procedure, Eyes Week 1 Comeback

The New York Jets will be without backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor for the entire preseason. Head coach Aaron Glenn confirmed on Tuesday that Taylor recently underwent a minor arthroscopic procedure on his knee.

“He’s still going through his protocols as far as his rehab,” Glenn said. “I don’t think he will be playing in the preseason, but hopefully he will be ready for Week One.”

The surgery, commonly referred to as a “knee scope,” is typically performed to clean up cartilage or address minor structural issues. While considered a relatively minor procedure, the recovery timeline will prevent Taylor from getting any preseason reps in the new offense.

Taylor, who signed with the Jets this offseason, is expected to serve as the primary backup to starter Justin Fields. Known for his mobility and experience, Taylor has appeared in 92 career games with 58 starts, throwing for over 12,000 yards and rushing for more than 2,200 yards.

With Tyrod Taylor sidelined, Adrian Martinez and rookie Brady Cook will handle the backup duties for the remainder of camp and the preseason. The team could also explore adding another quarterback to ease the workload and provide depth until Taylor returns.

The Jets hope to have Taylor ready for the season opener, but Glenn emphasized that the next couple of weeks will determine his availability. Until then, the coaching staff will continue evaluating their depth chart behind Fields as they prepare for the regular season.
