Insider reveals price and length of extension for Jake McCabe of the Toronto Maple Leafs

NHL insider Nick Kypreos has said what he believes Jake McCabe's contract extension with the Toronto Maple Leafs will be in terms of length and money

While star Auston Matthews is under contract for four seasons, the Toronto Maple Leafs have a lot of work to do over this season and next in order to ensure some kay names aren't lost to free agency. One person likely to get an extension with the team this season is 30-year-old Jake McCabe. Nick Kypreos has named the price and term the new deal will include.

On a recent podcast, Kypros said a deal between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Jake McCabe is very close to done. It will be a six year contract coming in at $5 million, or possibly $5.2 million.

While there can be some debate over whether Jake McCabe is worth that money, especially at this point in his career, he'll most likely get it elsewhere in free agency after this season if the Toronto Maple Leafs aren't willing to pony up. McCabe recently said himself that he loves it in Toronto and he believes the team wants him, too..

'Yeah, we've talked a couple times,' McCabe said. 'I love it here, and think they enjoy my game too.'

Jake McCabe came to the Toronto Maple Leafs at the trade deadline in 2023 from the Chicago Blackhawks. At the time, he was in the first of a four-year deal that paid him $4 million per season. McCabe had his best year statistically in the NHL with Toronto in 2023-24, putting up 8 goals and 28 points. He changed agents on back in June of this year, going with Brian and Scott Bartlett instead of Forward Hockey. His new firm also represents Bobby McMann, and negotiated a new deal with Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving on behalf of their client last season.
