Bachelor In Paradise season 9 ended in December 2023, and now there are signs that the show may never return for a tenth season. Season 9 of The Bachelor franchise spin-off ended with three couples walking off the beach hand in hand; however, since then, all three couples broke up. Within a week of the season finale airing on ABC, the final three couples ended their relationships. What's more, the breakups happened within days of each other.
Since premiering in 2014, Bachelor In Paradise has made more successful matches than The Bachelor and The Bachelorette, but the failure of Bachelor In Paradise season 9 has led to speculation about the show's return. Rumors about the show have only intensified over time as more signs point to no, including filming schedules of other franchise shows. Adding fuel to the fire, 52-year-old former host Chris Harrison all but confirmed the show's demise.
Chris Harrison's BIP Reveal
He's Dialed In On Bachelor Franchise News
Though Chris left the franchise in 2021, he hosted The Bachelor franchise shows from the premiere in 2002 until 2021. The fact that he worked on the show for such a long time means he has developed a lot of long-term relationships with many of the people who still run the show.
Being that he's so dialed in, when Chris made claims about the demise of Bachelor In Paradise , it made news.
During an episode of The Most Dramatic Podcast Ever With Chris Harrison, Chris said, “I was a little bummed to hear that Paradise has allegedly been postponed. I think is the official way they’re saying it is. They’re postponing it for a year or canceling it.” The long-time host left The Bachelor franchise after his defense of The Bachelor season 25 contestant Rachael Kirkconnell attending a plantation-themed sorority party in college. The backlash against his defense of her was harsh, and he was accused of racism. It got so heated he was forced to leave the franchise.
Other Signs That BIP Won't Be Back
Filming Schedules
There are other signs that Bachelor In Paradise is canceled or at least postponed. The show is filmed at a beautiful resort in Mexico, and production typically begins in June. There isn't much time left for ABC to decide on officially ordering season 10. Though that isn't a great sign, the network didn’t announce plans for season 9, which aired last year, until May 2023, so there could still be an announcement any day now.
Currently, The Bachelorette season 21, with Jenn Tran, is filming, and it seems the network is planning to go into production on The Golden Bachelorette next. It's hard to tell when Bachelor In Paradise season 10 could go into production. Since the show is filmed on a beach, it can't be filmed during winter, at least not in Mexico, where it would be too cold to lounge around in swimwear.
Unless BIP films at the same time as The Golden Bachelorette , it likely won't happen this year.
BIP Season 9 Was A Disaster
Nobody Found Love
Though three couples left the show hand-in-hand, all three announced their split within a week of the finale airing on ABC. Kylee Russell and Aven Jones didn't get engaged at the end of the season, but they left paradise together as boyfriend and girlfriend. Kylee came to Bachelor In Paradise hoping to meet Aven, who had liked some of her Instagram photos. The couple spent the rest of the season together; however, their relationship ended because Aven cheated on Kylee.
Because Aven wasn't there, Kylee paired off with Will Urena, but when Aven arrived a few days later, Kylee broke Will's heart and left him for Aven.
Two couples left the beach engaged, including John Henry Spurlock and Kat Izzo, who didn't find each other until later in the season. Aaron Bryant proposed to Eliza Isichei after a tumultuous start to their relationship. The two engaged couples announced their break-ups within hours of each other, soon after the Bachelor In Paradise season 9 finale had aired.
Will Golden Bachelor/Bachelorette Replace BIP
Out With The Old, In With The New
The inaugural season of The Golden Bachelor ended with 72-year-old Gerry Turner getting down on one knee and proposing to 69-year-old Theresa Nist. Gerry, the widower and retired restaurateur, hit it off with multiple women during the season but eliminated all but Theresa and Leslie Fhima during the second to last episode. Though Gerry told both of the final two women that he loved them, he ultimately gave his final rose to fellow widower Theresa and sent a heartbroken Leslie home in tears.
Gerry and Theresa were married in an elaborate wedding but announced their divorce in May 2024.
Despite Gerry and Theresa's divorce, the show was such a hit that ABC is currently in production for The Golden Bachelorette. Though the identity of the show's lead has yet to be announced, multiple former contestants are favored to land the role, with the runner-up, Leslie, at the top of the list. There is a chance that the new show will overtake Bachelor In Paradise.
Why BIP Deserves Another Season
The Show Works
Though Bachelor In Paradise season 10 didn't yield any great love stories, BIP has resulted in more long-term relationships than The Bachelor and The Bachelorette. Jade Roper and Tanner Tolbert fell in love on Bachelor In Paradise season 2 and were married in January 2016. Their wedding aired on ABC on Valentine’s Day, and they went on to welcome three children. Another Bachelor In Paradise pair still going strong is Raven Gates and Adam Gottschalk from season 4. They were married in 2021 and have two children together.
Other successful Bachelor In Paradise couples include Chris Conran and Alana Milne from season 7, who got engaged in March 2024. Season 7 was a good year because it also brought Joe Amabile and Serena Pitt together, as well as Kenny Braasch and Mari Pepin, Thomas Jacobs and Becca Kufrin, and Noah Erb and Abigail Heringer. The show is, in many ways, more interesting than other Bachelor franchise shows, as it gives viewers a chance to root for multiple different couples. Producers of Bachelor In Paradise will hopefully not let one bad season kill the entire show.
