Is Rob Lowe Going to Be in '9-1-1: Nashville'? What He Said About Returning to the Franchise

The actor previously played Owen Strand on 9-1-1: Lone Star.

  • Rob Lowe played Owen Strand on 9-1-1: Lone Star throughout the show's five season-run.
  • Rob spoke with Decider on if he'd be interested in playing Owen Strand again in the upcoming 9-1-1 spinoff series, 9-1-1: Nashville.
  • Rob also revealed his brother Chad Lowe is an executive producer on 9-1-1: Nashville.

When 9-1-1 first premiered on Fox back in 2018, fans loved watching a story of first responders working in an L.A. firehouse. As each episode centered around Station 118 and a different emergency, viewers also became invested in how the team's lives were affected both in and out of work.

With 9-1-1 being quite a success, it was only natural for co-creators Ryan Murphy and Tim Minear to expand the universe with a spinoff series. That's when 9-1-1: Lone Star premiered in 2020, with Rob Lowe leading the show as Owen Strand, the captain of the Austin, Texas firehouse. While folks were drawn to the inner workings of the folks in Station 126, Fox chose to cancel the series after five seasons due to financial reasons. It also didn't help that the original 9-1-1 series moved to ABC for season 7, leaving the audience split between watching both shows on two different networks.

But as fans learned in February 2025, 9-1-1 is once again leaning into the world of spinoff shows with the fall 2025 premiere of 9-1-1: Nashville. Given how well-liked Rob was on his own spinoff series, it's left fans to wonder: will Rob Lowe be in the 9-1-1: Nashville spinoff?

While nothing is confirmed, Rob did share his thoughts about the new show when speaking to Decider for an interview published on June 11.

Not only did Rob reveal that his brother Chad Lowe (an actor and director famous for Pretty Little Liars and guest starring on 9-1-1: Lone Star as Owen's brother Robert Strand) will be an executive producer for 9-1-1: Nashville, he casually stated how he would be open to reprising his role as Owen Strand on the new series.

"Well, I’ll have to ask Chad Lowe, my brother," he teased to the outlet about potentially coming back to the 9-1-1 universe. "See, all my family are gatekeepers to my own future business now ... I’m just waiting for my phone to ring. I mean, you know, I hired him on Lone Star. I think turnabout is fair play."

Now, that's news we didn't expect! But given how 9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Lone Star would sometimes have crossover episodes, it seems fitting Rob could make his way down to Nashville for an on-air visit! And who knows? Maybe Owen Strand will be back on TV before we know it.
