General Hospital's Katelyn MacMullen revealed the freedom she was given to portray Willow's devastated reaction in court.

The verdict is in, and a judge awarded Michael full custody of his and Willow’s kids on General Hospital. This caused Willow to frantically run around the courtroom pleading for the decision to be changed. Ultimately, she entered into an almost catatonic state as she tried to process what had just happened. Of course, Drew’s not going to let it go, and the battle for the kids has only just begun. Star Katelyn MacMullen dove into the emotions she dealt with as Willow.

A Scary Endeavor

MacMullen talked with Soap Opera Digest about filming the courtroom scenes where several characters were eviscerated on the stand. “That day was weirdly exciting but nerve-wracking, for sure, because I was like, ‘Okay, it’s kind of all been leading to this moment,’ ” she explained. She felt Willow’s reaction to losing her kids was going to have to be big.

She considered it “scary,” but the powers that be allowed her to improvise and run around the courtroom set, grabbing people (“of course, with their permission”), and getting extremely frantic. MacMullen enjoyed the latitude that she was given and remarked, “That’s what made it weirdly exciting, but it was also a really exhausting day.”

It Had No Limits

The actress was grateful for the writing, which gave her the freedom to have Willow respond so wildly. She praised her castmates who were involved in the scenes, stating that they were “so helpful and so present and so supportive.” In addition, she even went to Cynthia Watros (Nina), Sofia Mattson’s (Sasha), and Laura Wright’s (Carly) dressing rooms to get their thoughts on how the scenes would go down.

The actress stated that they all were fully aware of what was going to happen and were very helpful in preparing for what was to be an emotional freefall for Willow. MacMullen cited her acting coach, who explained that there were no limits to how far she could go in the scenes, and further opined, “You kind of just have to unleash, because this is Willow losing the most precious thing in the world to her.”
