Warning: This article contains spoilers for The Last of Us Season 2
The Last of Us Season 2 was a bleak watch, but fans praised the relationship between Ellie (Bella Ramsey) and Dina (Isabela Merced).
The interviewer recalled that Merced had mentioned in a previous interview that Dina allowed Ellie to access joy. Merced believed it was "her future," or the one that Dina and Ellie were building.
"I think Dina was maybe not clear on what she wanted and it was really plaguing her," Merced said. "I think humans without a want or a need are kind of directionless and it can sort of leave a hole in our hearts. Ellie allowed Dina to see her future clearly. And once she got a hold of that, it gave Dina this sort of fervor and drive. Now she has a goal and she's going to have that [expletive] baby with her girlfriend and they're going to live happily ever after."
Dina Has Complicated Feelings About Ellie's Confession
"It's very jarring when you find out the foundation of your relationship is built on some kind of lie," Merced said. "Um, it will be jarring, I think. The thing is, though, love is strong. Love... is a very confusing and powerful thing, and if it makes sense, it isn't love, right? So I'm rooting for them. All of it's really messed up at this point at the end of this season. So I really hope as well that we get the time and care put into Dina's story, to really see how she - if she does - end up forgiving [Ellie]."
The Last of Us Season 3 may primarily tell Abby Anderson (Kaitlyn Denver)'s story, in tune with how the original video game tells its story.
