All the students are from Port Talbot and Swansea and the idea was to make create an upbeat group which doesn’t take themselves too seriously according to TDM Dance School, which has had groups previous groups including feature on the show before.
Their groups including; Groove Thing, Pre Skool and Nu Sxool have all been featured on Britains's Got Talent and, two of their other groups - Notorious and Erruption - have also appeared on Sky One's Got to Dance. Another of their groups, Crew Ffres also appeared on CBBC's Alesha's Street Dance Stars.
The age range for Lil M's is 5-18, and they also have a choreographer who was one of the former dancers in Nu Sxool in 2012 according to the the school.
Terry Michael, who owns TDM School told WalesOnline: “They’ve got loads of personality and are a really nice, fun group and we’ve got some really quirky, individual characters.”
Terry also confirmed that it was the group’s idea to turn Simon into Gru on their first audition which got the judge’s attention, and their next performance will be even “bigger and better.”
He said: “They’re staying as the Minions but this time it’s just going to be a lot bigger. I can’t say what it is until the show but we are just super excited to see now how it goes tomorrow.
“We’re massive fans of BGT and we love watching it - it’s just been a really good experience for the kids, for the dancers, going back and forward to London it’s just being caught up in the BGT world, it’s been great and we’re having a really good time at the minute.
“We’ve had so many messages from members of the community from people who are really excited and sharing stuff on social media - it’s been excellent.”
Generally, Lil M’s rehearse once a week but in the build-up to the Britain’s Got Talent semi-final they have been in the studio more often, practising three or four times a week according to Terry.
He said: “They love being together and just being in the studio as well. In the build-up to it they’ve just been super excited and also a little bit nervous but it’s all been good news at the minute which is really good.
“It would be great if the people of Wales gets behind them and votes for them to try and push them through to the finals. It would be nice to have someone from Wales and it would be an absolutely fantastic opportunity for the dancers to be working on this level.”
When asked what it would feel like for them to win, Terry added: “For us as a school and the dancers it would be incredible, and for them to get the opportunity to perform in front of the royal family would be amazing.
