ITV The Chase star Mark Labbett lifts lid on BBC Strictly Come Dancing 'ban'

The Chase star Mark Labbett, also known as The Beast, has revealed the real reason why he is unable to take part in the BBC dance competition Strictly Come Dancing

Mark Labbett from The Chase has shed light on why he will never appear on Strictly Come Dancing, during a recent episode that saw the return of Bradley Walsh as the host. Tuesday (February 18) brought four new contestants to ITV's popular quiz show, with eager participants Will, Annaka, Debra, and Tom ready to challenge their knowledge for a cash prize.

Facing off against Mark 'The Beast' Labbett, the team was put through their paces. Will from York kicked things off, adding a commendable £7,000 to his team's pot during the cash-builder round.

However, the nerves got the better of him when it came time to face The Beast, leading to his early departure without any winnings.

Annaka from Newton Abbott then took her turn, only managing to secure £2,000 in a disappointingly slow lightning round. During her performance, the 59 year old chaser quipped about his own reasons for avoiding Strictly, saying: "Good afternoon, Annaka. Well, you quiz like I dance: it's not pretty and it's the reason I'm barred from Strictly."

To which Annaka responded: "Well, we'll have to see how I do in this round but I accept that my performance was pitiful.", reports the Express.

Regrettably, her subsequent head-to-head round did nothing to improve her situation, resulting in Annaka becoming the second contestant to leave the game.

Debra was next to face the challenge, impressing Walsh by earning £6,000 in the cash-builder round. Unlike her teammates, she kept her cool during the head-to-head round and secured a spot in the final chase.

Tom was the last contestant to take on The Beast, earning £5,000 in the cash-builder round. However, in a tense head-to-head, he was caught out in the final question shoot-out, leaving Debra to face the quizzer alone in the final round.

In the final round, Debra answered 14 questions correctly within two minute time frame after she'd initially gained a one point head start, earning applause from Mark, the Chaser, himself.

However, with 50 seconds left and no pushbacks locked down, she proved no match for the brainiac who caught Debra out, leaving her with nothing.

The Chase airs weekdays on ITV1, from 5pm weekdays and can be streamed via ITVX.
