Jade Cline is not happy about the amount of times she appeared on the most-recent season of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter, telling her fans on Snapchat that filming for the season actually took money out of her pocket, rather than adding to it.
After fans noticed how little Jade and her family were featured during the season— which ended with Thursday night’s episode— Jade explained how upset she is about the producers’ decision to not include even a quarter of what she and her family filmed for the show.
“I’m disappointed,” Jade said on Snapchat. “I feel like I wasted so much of my time that I could have put into my businesses here at home. I took off time from work to film with them, for them to not even use…we only used about 1/4— if that!— of everything that I filmed this past year.”
Unlike a lot of her ‘Teen Mom’ co-stars Jade actually works several jobs outside of filming for the show. In addition to being a real estate agent, Jade also owns her own hair salon.

As The Ashley has previously reported, the way the cast is paid on ‘Teen Mom: The Next Chapter’ is different from how they were paid when they appeared on Teen Mom 2 and Teen Mom OG. On ‘Next Chapter,’ a person has to appear in some form— whether in-person, on a FaceTime call, etc.— in order for them to get their appearance fee. If the person does not appear on the show, they do not receive any compensation, regardless of how much footage they may have filmed and MTV chose not to use.
In addition, ‘Next Chapter’ covers the stories of nine girls (as opposed to ‘Teen Mom 2’ and ‘Teen Mom OG’ which each covered five girls a season), so there is just much-less airtime to go around as well.
Because Jade appeared so rarely on the most-recent season of ‘Next Chapter,’ she didn’t make a lot of money.

“I took off work, took off all this time and basically put my life here on hold for MTV and it was just a waste of time,” she said. “Because I don’t get paid if I’m not on the episode so, essentially, I took time and money away from all my other jobs to hone in with [the producers], and try to give them everything that they wanted and everything that they needed. And, in the end, it still didn’t work out the way I thought it would. But what are you gonna do?
“This f**king TV business is ridiculous,” Jade added.

Earlier this month, Jade acknowledged on TikTok that she had basically been Missing In Action for the majority of Season 2B. (After making this video, Jade was featured on the following episode when she came to Florida to help co-star Briana DeJesus recover from her tube removal surgery.)
“I’m seeing all the messages, guys. I’m seeing the comments,” Jade said on TikTok. “Everyone’s asking, ‘Why are you not on this season of ‘Teen Mom? Where have you been?'”

Jade stated that her absence from the show had been a surprise to her and her husband Sean Austin.
“We are not on it!” she said, laughing and adding that her appearance on the show to take care of Briana felt more like a “guest appearance” than her being an actual cast member.
“I will be making a guest appearance because, at this point, that’s kind of what this feels like!” Jade said. “Because I really haven’t been on the last six or seven episodes…”
Jade suggested that her life might not be as exciting as the lives of some of her castmates. (As ‘Next Chapter’ fans saw, Catelynn Lowell was featured heavily this season, due to the drama she and husband Tyler Baltierra had with their bio daughter Carly’s parents. Mackenzie McKee was also shown on a lot of episodes, due to her doing IVF and eventually getting pregnant.)

“Maybe it’s because we don’t have enough drama. That we’re actually, like, happy and really healthy,” she said. “So maybe that’s why we’re not on the show? But, yeah, at this point it does feel like I’m guest-starring on a show I’m on, because I haven’t hardly been on it…
“There’s a lot of stuff that I filmed that hasn’t been shown on the show yet,” she continued. “…I don’t really understand the edit of this season at all. But, hey, I’m along for the ride.”
As The Ashley previously told you, the cast has not been told whether or not ‘Next Chapter’ will get picked up for a third season. (Since the most-recent season was “2B,” it was officially part of Season 2. For the next season, though, MTV would have to issue new contracts to the cast members, etc. so it is not as easy as it was last season to just extend the season and add episodes.)
