It can be said, without a doubt, that Jake Evans is one of the pleasant surprises for the Montreal Canadiens in 2024-2025.

The 28-year-old forward is currently fifth in the team's scoring ranks this season and excels on the first penalty-kill unit alongside his line mate, Joel Armia.

That said, we all know that Evans will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season and Kent Hughes could get excellent value on the trade market in exchange for his services.

However, it seems that Jake Evans' future in the National Hockey League is indeed in Montreal, according to Pierre McGuire.

A contract worth nearly 23 million dollars for Jake Evans?

Recently invited to Tony Marinaro's podcast, The Sick Podcast with Tony Marinaro, former TSN analyst, now with Sportsnet, stated that he believes negotiations between Jake Evans' camp and the Canadiens will be easy and that an agreement is highly likely.

"I would probably pay him between 2.75 and 3.75 million dollars per year and I would give him 6 to 7 years.. This is not a tough negotiation."

Jake Evans is currently making 1.9 million dollars and will therefore be due for an interesting salary increase.

It is also important to consider the fact that the Canadiens are currently on a great winning streak and the organization is fighting for a playoff spot.

If the Canadiens were already out of the race, it's very likely that Jake Evans would be talked about as a trade asset for Kent Hughes ahead of the trade deadline.
