Coming off another disappointing regular season, the Las Vegas Raiders understood they needed to make some drastic changes to get the franchise back on track.
With that in mind, owner Mark Davis brought in Pete Carroll and John Spytek to replace Antonio Pierce and Tom Telesco, respectively. Carroll and Spytek have already made some big moves, most notably trading for Geno Smith and extending him.
Now that Smith will be under center, Las Vegas must now focus on adding more talent and depth in the passing game. Brock Bowers is primed to be the No. 1 target, though the wideout room could use some help.
Jakobi Meyers had a strong 2024 campaign and is reportedly open to staying with the Raiders via Ryan McFadden of ESPN:
“Following Crosby and Smith securing lucrative deals, who could be the next Raider to get a big payday?
Among a short list of names that makes sense is wide receiver Jakobi Meyers. With the 28-year-old coming off a career season and the Raiders being fairly thin at wide receiver, a long-term deal would lock down a reliable pass catcher for the foreseeable future.
He is entering the final year of a three-year, $33 million deal that he signed in 2023, and has a cap hit of $14.98 million in 2025. However, Meyers doesn’t have any guaranteed money remaining on his contract.
Meyers is open to getting a new deal done because he would like to be a Raider for the long term, according to a source with direct knowledge.”
Las Vegas has liked what it’s seen from Meyers and reportedly holds him in high regard:
“Meyers, who spent his first four years in New England, has leverage. The team views Meyers as a key player on the roster, and rightfully so. After recording at least 800 yards in three straight seasons, Meyers watched his production spike in 2024.”
Although Meyers might not be the flashiest wide receiver, he has good hands, solid technique as a route runner, and a field-stretching ability. Those three traits, plus his familiarity with the organization, make him an easy choice to be extended.
While nothing is imminent, it would be good business for Las Vegas to keep Meyers around for the long haul.
Josh Jacobs names Jakobi Meyers as most underrated Raiders teammate
Green Bay Packers star Josh Jacobs knows how difficult it’s been for the Las Vegas Raiders the past few seasons, but he still had quality teammates when he was with the team. Jacobs had no problem calling Jakobi Meyers his most underrated teammate because of what he was able to do on the field.
