Jax Taylor’s family has been largely absent from his life for nearly ten years, even missing his 2019 wedding to Brittany Cartwright. But with the recent revelations about his struggles, it seems like there may be a shift in his relationships with them.
A Time of Reflection and Reconnection
The former Vanderpump Rules star has been working through sobriety, battling a long-term cocaine addiction, and going through a period of self-reflection.
During this difficult time, Jax has been reaching out to his family in hopes of rebuilding the bridges that were once burned.
In an interview with Us Weekly on March 26, Jax, whose full name is Jason Cauchi, shared that after years of silence, his mother, Marie Cauchi, recently contacted him.
Their estrangement had lasted for nearly seven years, and during that time, Marie hadn’t even met Jax’s son, Cruz, who is now three years old. “My mother reached out to me — we haven’t talked in six, seven years,” Jax revealed. “That was interesting. I wasn’t ready to open that up yet.”
Marie, along with Jax’s younger sister, Jenny Lynn Cauchi, would undoubtedly have heard about his personal struggles, including his battle with cocaine addiction. Jax also spent some time at a mental health facility, where he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and PTSD.
Despite all that, it seems both his mother and sister are ready to reconnect. Jax expressed gratitude for their reaching out, especially at such a difficult time. “I was glad she reached out,” Jax said about hearing from his mother. “And my sister, too.”
Jax is particularly eager for his mother to meet Cruz, something he’s made a top priority. “I want my mother to meet her grandson — that’s my main priority,” he added, emphasizing that family reconciliation is important for the future.
The Rift That Kept Them Apart
Looking back, Jax explained some of the painful moments that led to the rift between him and his family. He opened up about this during Season 7, Episode 2 of Vanderpump Rules, revealing that his bond with his mother had been strong before the falling out.
“I used to be very close to my mom. Everybody’s like, ‘I love your mom.’ We really haven’t communicated in the last six months, pretty much since my father passed,” he shared.
The passing of his father added further strain to their relationship. Jax explained that things had been tense between his parents prior to his father’s diagnosis, and he was upset when he wasn’t given the chance to say goodbye before his dad’s death.
“Their marriage was on the rocks; she was talking about leaving my dad about a month before he got cancer,” Jax recalled. “Toward the end, my mom would say, ‘Oh, he’s fine.’ We didn’t know he was in ICU; I would have been there in a heartbeat if I knew he was in ICU. I mean, I get it, my mother’s trying to protect my sister and I, but I should have been able to say goodbye to my dad.”
Now, with his sobriety in progress and family members reaching out, Jax seems ready to look forward and mend the broken ties.
As he focuses on his personal growth and the future, it’s clear that reconnecting with his family and moving past the pain of the past are top priorities for him. Fans can catch Jax in The Valley premiering April 15 at 9/8c on Bravo.
