Speaking with Deadline, Morgan teased Negan and Bruegel's conflict in The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2, confirming the characters will soon be at odds with one another. The actor praised Coates' performance on the show, saying he was impressed by his portrayal of the new antagonist. He also confirmed the duo's conflict would come to a head near the end of the season, while they also wouldn't get along with many other characters either. Check out what Morgan had to say below:
Yeah, we go a little mano e mano, for sure. Toward the end of the season things get a little tough between the two of us. But Kim Coates in general is one of the most special people I’ve ever known in my life. I’ve known him for a long time, and to finally have the opportunity to work with him … I love watching him do his thing. I think the biggest problem that I had was I maybe enjoyed watching him too much and I would forget that I have to be Negan. I’d be giggling at Kim putting on this performance. That was amazing. But yeah, Bruegel and Negan don’t get along with a lot of people this season.
While the season 2 premiere didn't showcase Bruegel doing much, he seemed both entertained and interested in Negan's sermon. This became especially apparent after he saw the streets of Manhattan light up because of the Dama's methane production, confirming he'd be an important leader moving forward. As for his plans, the other characters in Dead City seem aware of his stature, even though he's still expected to fall in line with all the other groups. This could easily lead to bigger conflict as the story progresses.
However, he's not the only danger the Dama needs to deal with to enact her plans from the end of Dead City season 1. There's also the looming threat of the New Babylon Federation, which wants her methane. Additionally, Maggie (Lauren Cohan) is arriving with their army in order to rescue Negan on her own. With Morgan confirming he and Coates will be fighting late into the season, though, it seems like the conflict in Manhattan is going to become extremely messy as new sides and alliances are introduced.
