Jennifer Love Hewitt Is Right, '9-1-1' Needs a Crossover With This Must-See 96% Rotten Tomatoes Crime Show

Since 9-1-1 left Fox and switched over to ABC, it has joined a number of the network's existing procedurals, including The RookieGrey's Anatomy, and Will Trent. In the last two seasons, 9-1-1 has already had crossovers with The Bachelor and Doctor Odyssey, but a lot of fans have been excited about the prospect of a potential crossover between 9-1-1 and The Rookie. Although that particular crossover is looking more and more unlikely, there is a good chance 9-1-1 will cross over with some more ABC series in the future (aside from the very likely upcoming crossover with 9-1-1: Nashville).

In a recent interview with AwardsBuzz9-1-1's Jennifer Love Hewitt suggested the possibility of a crossover between 9-1-1 and ABC's newest crime procedural, High Potential. Love Hewitt revealed that she is a big fan of High Potential, and she spoke about her hopes for a crossover with the series, adding, "They're in LA, and [Morgan]'s always referencing Dispatch. And I'm like, 'She has got to come to the Dispatch Center, or I have to go to hers.'" Although the most popular hope for a 9-1-1 crossover is with The Rookie, Jennifer Love Hewitt is right: 9-1-1's next crossover episode should absolutely be with High Potential.

'9-1-1' and 'High Potential' Have Very Similar Tones

Aside from the tragic death of Bobby Nash (Peter Krause) and its aftermath at the end of Season 8, 9-1-1 has always been lighter in tone than most procedurals, and High Potential has a similar tone that strikes the perfect balance between its comedic scenes and its more intense storylines. High Potential follows Morgan Gillory (Kaitlin Olson), a genius and single mom who works for the LAPD as a night cleaner. One night, Morgan can't help but correct an error in a Major Crimes case, which leads her to being hired as a crime-solving consultant for the division.

Both 9-1-1 and High Potential have a tendency to get silly with their episodes. Some of 9-1-1's most memorable episodes have the characters dealing with things like a jinx that causes a subsequent string of weird calls, as well as a "Bee-nado": a tornado made up of millions of bees. High Potential is only one season in so far, but it has already had some wildly funny moments, like Morgan shooting her partner, Detective Karadec (Daniel Sunjata), with a tranquilizer gun in order to save him from washing his hands with poisoned soap.

Both 9-1-1 and High Potential are two of the funnier procedurals on air at the moment, but they also know how to deliver more serious and intense storylines. In just their most recent seasons, both shows each had a really suspenseful and emotional episode that put some of the main characters in danger. For 9-1-1, that was "Voices," in which Maddie (Love Hewitt) had to fight for her life against a serial killer (Abigail Spencer) with a fixation on her. For High Potential, it was the midseason finale, "One of Us." In the episode, two former military sergeants hold the Major Crimes department hostage, claiming that they will set off a bomb unless the detectives can prove that their friend is innocent of a murder. Both of these episodes are shocking and suspenseful, but they are also bookended by more comedic episodes.

'9-1-1' and 'High Potential's Characters Would Mix Perfectly

9-1-1 and High Potential crossover would also be an excellent idea for many reasons, especially because it's easy to imagine the characters interacting with each other. It makes a lot of sense that the Major Crimes detectives and Morgan would cross paths with the first responders and 9-1-1 operators of 9-1-1particularly because they all live and work in Los Angeles. Morgan and Maddie could talk through a case if Dispatch is reporting a crime to their department, and Morgan and Karadec could easily work with Athena (Angela Bassett) if she happened to find a body while on duty.

Additionally, Morgan and Buck (Oliver Stark) both know a great deal of random facts and love reciting them, and Chimney (Kenneth Choi) and Oz (Deniz Akdeniz) have similar senses of humor, which could lead to some hilarious interactions. Morgan is also extremely observant, and it would be fun to see her analyze the 9-1-1 characters, and possibly even point out some unspoken dynamics to them — like the budding slowburn romance between Buck and Eddie (Ryan Guzman).

Love Hewitt also suggested that the crossover could be two parts, and that would be ideal. In the High Potential episode, the Major Crimes unit could solve a murder where they end up having to get more information from either Dispatch or Athena. In the 9-1-1 episode, this could build up to an emergency that affects everyone, and that could possibly even need some first responders on the scene. As 9-1-1 and High Potential move into their ninth and second seasons respectively, this could be the perfect time for the two shows to have their first crossover, once the 9-1-1 characters have had enough time to grieve the loss of Bobby.

Both 9-1-1 and High Potential will be back on ABC this Fall.
