The Boston Bruins took down the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-0 in Tampa to pick up a win. It was the first time in over 15 years that the Bruins took the ice and Brad Marchand was not on the roster. He had been traded to the Panthers on Friday. What started as a tight contest quickly unraveled in Boston’s favor late in the third period.
Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman was the highlight player of the game, saving all 26 shots he faced. It is his fourth shutout of the season.
Game Recap
The game remained scoreless through the first half. Cole Koepke (8), a former member of the Lightning organization, shot one past Lightning goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy during a scramble in front of the net to make it 1-0. Mark Kastelic (5) scored a bizarre goal. Vasilevskiy looked like he misread the play and was essentially looking away from the shot when it went in.
The Lightning pulled Vasilevskiy with five minutes to go in a last-ditch effort to get on the board. Nikita Zadorov (4) tacked on another with an empty goal. Koepke (9) scored his second goal of the game to cap off the scoring.
Vasilevkiy finished with 21 saves on 24 shots. He stopped his first 19 shots before allowing three goals on five shots.
Neither team scored on the power play. The Bruins were 0-for-1, and the Lightning were 0-for-2.
The Bruins return to action on Tuesday, March 11, when they host the Florida Panthers. They’ll get that first head-to-head match up (at least in spirit) with Marchand. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. Meanwhile, the Lightning hit the road and will take on the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday, March 11. Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m.
