Jets' Alijah Vera-Tucker Ready For Run-Heavy Offense: 'We Like That!'

One thing we know about the New York Jets under Aaron Glenn and offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand is that they will run the ball.

Having made it clear the Jets will be a run-first offense with Breece Hall, Braelon Allen, and Isaiah Davis, Engstrand will look to implement a similar style to what we saw in Detroit, where he was the passing game coordinator.

But to do that, the offensive line has to pull its weight and open up running lanes consistently, so it starts and stops with the front five.

And for right guard Alijah Vera-Tucker, he's excited that his group will be the straw that stirs the offense's drink in 2025.

"I think the coaching staff has told us straight up we're going to run the ball," Vera-Tucker said via the team's official website. "I'm saying that's different from the past. And the offensive line, we like that, obviously we like hearing that, run the ball and get the defense tired out.

"So then the play actions open up, and then get a couple drop backs in there for G Dub [WR Garrett Wilson] and all other receivers to do their thing. The run game is very important to any offense. Any team knows that. So we got to go out there and execute."

For some, the Jets' offensive line is rather underrated with Olu Fashanu, John Simpson, Joe Tippmann, Vera-Tucker, and then Armand Membou; that group has the power to move mountains, and that is exactly what they will be asked to do.

Given that Justin Fields' weapons aren't considered to be anything to scare a defense with, aside from Garrett Wilson, having a run game to help take the defense's attention, and then open up the passing game might be the plan.

But again, that falls back onto the offensive line to open up holes and for New York's trio of backs to take advantage of it.

The Jets will run the ball a lot in 2025 under Glenn, and Vera-Tucker and his offensive line are ready to shoulder that responsibility.
