New York Jets rookie tight end Mason Taylor has gotten his feet underneath him in the Big Apple rather quickly, and it's showing up on the practice field.
With the Jets selecting Taylor in the second round of the draft, he has already been earmarked for a starting role and to develop into a trusted weapon for Justin Fields.
But that doesn't just happen with a click of the fingers; it takes time and a lot of work, something that Mason has been putting a lot into his craft.
With good days of production that saw a couple of nice touchdown grabs, how does Taylor see his first training camp?
“I think it's been pretty good,” Taylor said. “Things have been flying around and the installs and everything like that, but I think I've kind of grasped on to it pretty quickly. With the help of my teammates and coaches, I've been getting on the playbook pretty fast and just looking forward to the future.”
With the Jets' weapons looking rather thin with only Garrett Wilson seen as one who can scare the defense, that means others are going to have to do their best to step up, and that includes Taylor.
Jeremy Ruckert and Stone Smartt make up the rest of the tight end room, so Taylor "should" be TE1 when Week 1 rolls around, but make no mistake, head coach Aaron Glenn, while he's liked what Mason has done, will make the LSU star earn it.
And it appears he's been doing just that as he looks to begin his NFL career with a bang.
