The New York Jets invested in their future when they signed wide receiver Garrett Wilson and cornerback Ahmad "Sauce" Gardner to big-money contracts before players reported to training camp.
While speaking with reporters over the final weekend of July, Jets running back Breece Hall suggested he is not expecting to receive a lucrative extension this summer while in the final year of his rookie deal.
"I'm not really expecting it before the season," Hall said about possibly putting pen to paper on a multi-year agreement, as shared by Kevin Patra of the NFL's website. "We got a new head coach (Aaron Glenn), new GM (Darren Mougey). Obviously, I wasn't drafted by them, I'm not their guy. So for me, like I said, I've got to prove it every day."
The previous Jets regime made Hall a second-round draft pick in the spring of 2022, and he hasn't quite lived up to the expectations many had for him after he went down with a torn ACL during his rookie season. He has yet to rush for 1,000 yards in any campaign. Per ESPN stats, the 24-year-old led the 2024 Jets with 209 carries, 876 rushing yards and five touchdowns on the ground. He also tallied 57 receptions for 483 yards and three scores.
That said, former Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers finished last season with the second-most pass attempts (584) in the league. The previously mentioned Glenn is expected to embrace more of a run-heavy philosophy with speedster Justin Fields serving as the club's new QB1. Such an offense could allow Hall to produce the best campaign, to date, of his pro career.
"For me, I've got a chip on my shoulder," Hall continued. "I feel like right now, OK, it's my last chance. For me, it's always been, 'he's got potential, he's got potential,' but now I want to be the product. It's all about putting my head down and working. I don't really want to discuss all the other stuff. For me, I just try to worry about ball right now."
For an article published on June 15, ESPN's Rich Cimini wrote that "Hall will be a prime candidate to be dealt" ahead of the Nov. 4 trade deadline if the Jets are on track to complete a losing season. As of Monday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook had the 2025 Jets at +120 betting odds to notch over 6.5 wins.
Such forecasts indicate that Gang Green could view Hall as surplus to requirements after the first Sunday of November wraps up.
