Jets Strategize To Acquire Justin Fields 2 Upgrades for Offensive Revamp

New York Jets - Garrett Wilson

Justin Fields will take the wheel of the New York Jets offense, but he needs help.

The New York Jets will be going forward with Justin Fields as their quarterback in 2025, with the franchise ushering in a new era after the Aaron Rodgers debacle.

It has been an offseason of change, with Fields being the headline addition, but with Davante Adams out, and Allen Lazard likely to follow suit, Justin isn't exactly surrounded by quality weapons.

Yes, there is Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall, but after that? A selection of young players who are yet to prove themselves in the league and while that could be a way forward, the Jets need more.

For CBS Sports' Jordan Dajani, while giving the Jets a B grade for their offseason dealings, highlights two offensive needs for the franchise.

“I like the Justin Fields signing," Dajani writes. "He played the most efficient football of his career during his time with the Pittsburgh Steelers, is just 26 years old, adds dual-threat ability and is now paired with former Ohio State teammate Garrett Wilson. I don't love the Brandon Stephens contract given the rough season he had with the Ravens, but I'm excited about ballhawk Andre Cisco on a one-year deal. Losing D.J. Reed of course hurts, but overall not a bad offseason from New York. Now it just needs some wide receivers and support on the offensive line.”

So it hasn't been the worst offseason for the Jets, but there are still plenty of roster holes - 2 glaring ones, really - to fill and not enough draft picks to do it.

Will the team still be a player in free agency? After all, tight end Tyler Conklin is the latest to move on, signing a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Chargers.

Fields has the capabilities to put something solid together in New York, but he needs help and more weapons is a start. The offensive line is still more solid than most, but potentially right tackle is a position the franchise could fortify.

So there are pieces to work with; Fields just needs a couple more.
