Joe Burrow Shares Sobering Take on State of Bengals After 1-4 Start

The current Bengals and former LSU Tigers signal caller did not mince words.

Joe Burrow's Cincinnati Bengals dropped a 41-38 overtime game to Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens this past Sunday, sending fans into an uproar over the team's rough start to the 2024-2025 season.

On Wednesday, Burrow and the Bengals returned to the practice field in hopes of working out the kinks before Sunday night's 8:20 p.m. kickoff against Daniel Jones and the New York Giants.

Wednesday's practice included bad news as running back Zack Moss walked out to the practice field without his helmet and did not appear to be practicing.

Rookie offensive tackle Amarius Mims and defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins both practiced on the day, helping to stem the tide of pessimism.

The Bengals find themselves in a tough spot heading into Sunday's game, tied with the Cleveland Browns for last place in the AFC North, a fact of life not lost on Burrow.

"I would say we are not the team to beat right now, we're 1-4," Burrow said.

"I don't think we can say that about ourselves right now. There's a lot of work to do before we can consider anything postseason wise."

Last season's Bengals narrowly missed the playoffs after losing Burrow to an injury where he tore ligaments in his right wrist that required season-ending surgery. Backup QB Jake Browning filled in admirably over the season's final seven games, completing 70.3% of his passes for 1,936 yards, 12 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

This season's Bengals suddenly find themselves at grave risk of repeating their disappointing 2023-2024 season unless things get turned around in a hurry.
