John Lynch and the 49ers just made life a whole lot easier for the rest of the NFL with their most recent signing

The unofficial picket line has been crossed! The San Francisco 49ers are, per reports, the first team in months to strike a deal with a second-round draft choice from the 2025 NFL Draft. They're inking defensive tackle Alfred Collins to his four-year rookie contract.

The move will almost assuredly generate a collective sigh of relief for the rest of the NFL, as Collins agreed to terms on a contract that was not fully guaranteed. That has been, to date, the sticking point for 30 of the 32 second-round draft choices after the top two picks in the round got 100 percent guarantees on their deals from the Cleveland Browns and the Houston Texans.

Collins, who is a mammoth defensive tackle and should go a long way in helping the 49ers to revive their once stout run defense. He will have 88% of his rookie contract fully guaranteed at signing. That is, according to OverTheCap, a 10 percent jump from what last year's 43rd overall pick, cornerback Max Melton, got from the Arizona Cardinals.

Collins' signing officially puts the entire 49ers draft class under contract and ready to roll for training camp. But the bigger story here is how swiftly the dominoes are set to fall across the rest of the league. There could still be room for some shuffling amid the picks between No. 35 overall and where Collins was selected — the 12 percent discrepancy in guaranteed amounts from what Collins & the earlier picks received does leave room for more haggling.

Everyone picked after Collins now has an established baseline of expectation for their ongoing asks for a revised guarantee structure versus the status quo.

And a vast majority of the NFL is undoubtedly thankful to have that clarity with training camp knocking on everyone's door. They're likely equally thankful that this signing does not extend the fully guaranteed conversation deeper into the round. Sit back and watch the signings fall like dominoes in the coming days — all thanks to Collins and the 49ers for striking the first blow.
