The offseason takes some odd twists and turns. For the New Orleans Saints, a former division rival coach showed them some love on social media recently. Jon Gruden is supporting New Orleans in some capacity, based on a recent post on X/Twitter.
According to his social media, the former NFL head coach received a care package from the Saints recently. The box of gear and goodies really impressed him, and he was even rocking a personalized "Gruden" Saints jersey.
New Orleans talked to Gruden in January of 2024 regarding a position on their staff.
According to Jeff Duncan, Gruden could join the staff in a role that is not offensive coordinator. In short, he would not replace Pete Carmichael Jr. in title. That's still to be determined, though, and play-calling duties may not go to Gruden.
The Saints and Gruden met with Gruden in Tampa last week.
Mike Triplett reports that Gruden's meeting with members of the Saints organization was described as a 'friendly relationship' meeting - rather than a job interview/connection, though. -- A to Z Sports
Gruden had a strong relationship with QB Derek Carr, so there was no surprise that he spent some time in the building during his tenure. Regardless, the former offensive guru coach has been a social media sensation at times since he left coaching.
His film review videos last season were a hit among many, and he currently works with Barstool Sports.
The experienced football mind won the Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2003.
Gruden also showed support for rookie quarterback Hunter Dekkers this offseason. The Saints signed him as an undrafted free agent, and he's currently on the roster still. It's an uphill climb for him to carve out a role, but he has a big believer in the former head coach. Dekkers worked out with Gruden earlier in the offseason.
