Jonny Brodzinski will fill in Filip Chytil's role as he deals with an upper-body injury.
With Filip Chytil potentially set to miss some time with an upper-body injury, Jonny Brodzinski will likely see an increased role.
Chytil did not practice with the rest of the New York Rangers on Saturday and will not travel with the team to start their four-game road trip as he’s being evaluated for an upper-body injury.
During Saturday’s practice, Brodzinski filled in Chytil’s role, playing on a line with Will Cuylle and Kaapo Kakko.
If Chytil is to miss games, Brodzinski has some big shoes to fill.
Chytil was playing at an elite level to start the season, propelling his line to new heights. You can make the case that the 24-year-old was the Rangers’ most impactful forward through the first 15 games of the year.
Peter Laviolette is confident in Brodzinski’s abilities to take the place of Chytil for now.
“He goes in there and gives us good minutes,” Laviolette said. “He’s fast, he’s competitive, I think that spot is actually a good fit for him. He’s played there, he’s done that. I think he is real comfortable here now.”
Brodzinski has served as a healthy scratch for a large part of this season thus far. The 31-year-old has played in just seven games where he’s tallied one goal, one assist and two points.
